Trend Alert – Bardot Tops

Last season and even present in many of the collections this season cold shoulder tops were the big news and one of the trendiest things that you could be sporting in the fashion world. But this season fashion has gone one step further with the Bardot top which are absolutely everywhere this season from the catwalk with their haute couture to our favourite bargain high street shops. This is one huge spring and summer trend of this year so you should be definitely jumping on board.

First things first though, what exactly is a Bardot top? (In case you’ve been living under a rock!) A Bardot top is a enticingly sexy top that is off the shoulder, leaving them bare and they are an erogenous zone after all! They are named after one of the greatest screen sirens of all time, the legendary French blonde bombshell Bridget Bardot, so you can obviously imagine how effortlessly chic and sexy these gorgeous little tops actually are.

If you are entranced by this trend, then there are a few things that you need to consider in order to ensure that the top will have its full effect. The first of these is to make sure that you invest in a good strapless or multi-way bra. Even though showing pretty bra straps hasn’t been a faux-pas for decades now thank goodness, the point of this top is to show off your gorgeous shoulders, so you don’t want your bra straps digging in there. There are loads of affordable options when it comes to buying a good bra, and even if you are busty, there is certainly one out there for you!

The next tip to have the top looking absolutely fabulous and making you feel great when you wear one of these coveted Bardot tops is to make sure that you have it sitting just right. Too high and you’ll find that the elastic is constantly pinging up turning it into more of a flamenco style top. Too low though and you risk showing off a little too much and losing the ability to raise your arms. The top should ideally sit just below your shoulders, right on the shoulder blades and at the top of the arms.

An ideal Bardot top is made from cool and crisp cotton, perhaps in a nice pale blue and white pin-stripe a bit reminiscent of a man’s shirt, but obviously with a seriously sexy make-over. It should also not be too clingy or tight; you want it to be airy and light and to look like something that you’ve happened to throw on that makes you look wonderful and oh-so-chic. Avoid t-shirt style ones and pay a little more for the pure cotton to ensure that you look put together and not sloppy. Team with some laid-back cut-off denim shorts, or, for a smarter look, some slick cigarette pants that will have you looking Paris street style ready this summer! Some tousled hair and a huge pair of sunglasses and you could be Bardot herself!
